Most Annoying Christmas Song Ever?

I’ve been listening to Songs for Christmas by Sufjan Stevens lately and there are lots of good songs on this collection.  There are even a few great songs.  However, there is one song that I cannot stand: “The Little Drummer Boy”.  It’s not that Stevens does a bad job with the song.  It’s just that the song is terrible in its very nature.  I have not ever heard a good version of this song.  The song is so repetitive and gimmicky that I think it would be impossible to record a good version of this song without completely changing it.  I submit this as my candidate for the Most Annoying Christmas Song Ever (MACSE).  Does anyone have any other candidates for this dubious distinction?  Let me know.

Not what you want to see

When I started up my computer this morning, I got an error message from my anti-virus software telling me that an error had occurred while the error reporting service was not running. So, it asked me if I wanted to process/report the error. I clicked “yes”. This launched a web browser, which promptly displayed the following message:

Evidently, they don’t have a good system for reporting errors in the error reporting system, so they just give you an email address. I just find it funny when stuff like this happens.

Is getting a Wii now even harder than on launch day?

In previous posts I’ve discussed both my experience of waiting in line at launch day to buy a Wii for a friend and my desire to get one for Christmas.  I talked to my mom about the Wii as my Christmas gift and she’s onboard.  In fact, she’s excited about trying it herself.  Now comes the tricky part – actually finding one in a store.  I’ve been looking at this site to track expected shipments and they are all disappointingly small.  Whereas on launch day, many Best Buy locations received in the neighborhood of 120 units, the next shipment looks to involve only about 12 – an order of magnitude fewer.  Although more shipments are expected before Christmas, I am beginning to despair that I will be able to get a Wii without camping out overnight.  If anyone has any suggestions or insider tips, I’m all ears.

Wiikend update

I’m sorry about all the Wii puns. They’re just too easy. What follows is some info on the controllers needed to use the Wii’s Virtual Console feature and info on playing GameCube games on the Wii, all of which I learned or experienced this weekend. If you’re a Wii owner or enthusiast, or if you’re considering buying a Wii, you should definitely read this.

In search of good Christmas music

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, many families will be putting up Christmas decorations and getting out their collection of Christmas music, which they will play non-stop between now and Christmas. Unfortunately, much of the Christmas music that is played in people’s homes is pretty bad. However, I do have some good Christmas music, so I thought that I would let you know what it is. Plus, I’m soliciting Christmas music recommendations from my readership.

NL Central getting tougher

Over the last few days two big new contracts were announced by NL Central teams. The Cubs signed Alfonso Soriano to a 8-year contract and Astros signed Carlos Lee to a 6-year contract. With these two sluggers now in the NL Central, the Pirates are going to have to step it up if they want to compete.
